The Examiner (Westchester County, NY)
Examiner Media was established in 2007 by a team of award-winning local journalists who aimed to challenge the idea that print media was no longer relevant. This vision led to the launch of The Examiner on September 11, 2007. Since its inception, the company has expanded to include three more publications: The Putnam Examiner, The Northern Westchester Examiner, and The White Plains Examiner. What began as a single newspaper with a weekly circulation of 2,000 copies has rapidly evolved into a network of four weekly newspapers, distributing over 25,000 copies every Tuesday and reaching around 60,000 readers each week. By adhering to their motto, "SMALL NEWS IS BIG NEWS," Examiner Media has quickly become one of the fastest-growing media organizations in the area. With a broad coverage area in Westchester and Putnam counties, all four newspapers have positioned themselves as prominent sources for news and advertising.

Last month, on March 15, Kilmar Abrego Garcia – a Maryland resident with legal protection against deportation – was mistakenly deported to El Salvador by the Trump administration. He is currently detained without charges in a Salvadoran prison, despite a U.S. Supreme Court order directing the government to facilitate his return. Questions about campaign contributions and political influence aren’t just for Washington – they play out in small municipal governments too. In North Castle, those questions came to a head during a recent public hearing on proposed updates to the town’s ethics code. Former Examiner Editor-in-Chief and current Recorder journalist Martin Wilbur freelanced a piece for us last week that dives into the local push and pull – free speech and fairness, transparency and trust.
