The Hitavada

The Hitavada, known as The People's Paper, is the leading broadsheet English daily in Central India. It was established in 1911 by freedom fighter Gopal Krishna Gokhale in Nagpur. Later, it was acquired by Purohit and Company, which is run by Banwarilal Purohit, a former Member of Parliament from the BJP in Nagpur and currently the Governor of Tamil Nadu. In 2011, the newspaper marked its 100th anniversary with a celebration that was launched by Mrs. Pratibha Patil, who was the President of India at that time.
