The Notice
Hello! I’m Rae, the writer and editor behind theNotice, a blog dedicated to beauty. I launched theNotice on September 26, 2007, after discovering that my reliable Aveeno moisturizer wasn't meeting the needs of my dry skin, prompting me to search online for better options. Since then, I've been on a quest for improvement in every part of my life, from my writing style (I believe there's no such thing as "funny enough") to the photos I capture for theNotice with my Sony a6000, and even my lipstick picks each month. At theNotice, my goal is to create a welcoming environment for all my readers, filled with vibrant visuals, in-depth reviews, and thoughtful insights on the beauty world. I hope you enjoy your silicone-free visit!

So: The American will-they-won’t-they tariffs have set in. There’s a couple bright spots of news on the horizon; Canada just secured another four years of liberal governance, Pierre Poilievre lost his seat entirely, and Severance has been confirmed for a third season. As consumers, we don’t have global pull, but we can focus on grassroots action, voting with our dollar, and supporting our communities. One action that’s easy to take is buying Canadian sex toys when the option is available.

Whether it’s due to stress, menopause, postpartum changes, or something entirely unexplained, hair loss and thinning hair is a stress point that nobody needs. My hair started thinning in 2010 as a medication side effect of a rheumatoid arthritis drug, and it’s really been getting to me now that I’m in my early 30s. I look at the full, luscious heads of hair that every other person in my family has and I am wildly, gut-wrenchingly jealous. In some ways, I feel like I’ve been nerfed by my early 20s.

2024 has been such an odd year—chaotic and dragging at the same time. For the late-gift-buyers of December (well, not that late, but certainly post-Black-Friday-sales late), here are some of the little treats that I’ve been enjoying playing with recently. This year, all of my gift picks are from smaller and newer brands. In all the chaos, it feels good to find points of connection.

If you had asked me two years ago what I thought about pimple patches, the answer I would have had for you would be very different from my answer today.

The Fun Mom, you say? Yes: In the words of Amy Poehler in Mean Girls in both 2004 and 2024, we love a Fun Mom. She deserves the world and more, minus a Chihuahua going at her sausages. (If you got that reference, you’ve watched too much behind the scenes Mean Girls footage and interviews.) While Poehler’s character was, ostensibly, actually a terrible mom in both of these movies, the pop cultural phenomenon lives on.
