Oswego dominate Alfred State but fall short in pivotal New Paltz series

After taking two series in a row by a score of 2-1, the Oswego State baseball team was feeling good about their chances in the SUNYAC standings. Taking down SUNY Cortland and Fredonia with a cumulative record of 4-2 was all they could have asked for. Their next endeavor, however, proved a much greater challenge. The SUNY New Paltz Hawks sat in the N.2 of the SUNYAC, above the Lakers before their matchups. But before that came a short pit stop and a game against the Alfred State Pioneers.
Nintendo announces ‘Mario Kart World’ after 11-year hiatus

It has been 11 long years since the last installment of the Mario Kart series was released. The wait ends on June 5 of 2025. Nintendo will release their newest edition of the famous racing series alongside the brand-new Nintendo Switch 2 console. The game is called Mario Kart World and it aims to please both the newcomers and the most hardcore ultra-shortcut lovers out there. But it will be the most unique entry in the series to date.
Oswego Lakers capture SUNYAC title with dominant fashion

After being knocked out of the SUNYAC tournament in the semifinals by their arch rival, the Oswego State Lakers had the chance to get the ultimate revenge in their own barn. By a small miracle, the Plattsburgh State Cardinals had managed to overcome a 3-0 deficit in just the third period of their contest against Cortland, force overtime and win the game in the first minutes of OT, sending them to the SUNYAC championship.

An energetic, down to the wire finish was certainly what the doctor ordered for the Oswego State men’s hockey team at the end of their regular season. One that was filled with ups and downs, triumphant victories and frustrating losses. The Lakers swept their rivals, the Plattsburgh State Cardinals in the regular season, winning both their home and away contests, both by multiple goals.

After a disappointing first weekend of hockey, the Oswego State Lakers were still searching for that first taste of true victory. As you may recall, the Lakers got a spiritual win after defeating Elmira University in the shootout, but the only thing that counts for is a possible tiebreaker come the end of the season. The 4B movement, a radical feminist movement originating in South Korea during the 2010s, is an outstanding form of protest. This movement, also known as Four Nos or Four Bis (meaning no in the Korean language), focuses on the abstinence of dating, marrigae, sex and pregnancy. This movement emerged as a response to Korea’s misogyny, sexism, growing sexual violence and limited reproductive rights.
Oswego State women’s ice hockey destroys first game of the season, winning 6-1

The Deborah F. Stanley Arena sat dormant since late February, until just this past Saturday it exploded with fiery play and energetic crowds for the first NCAA div. III Hockey games of the year. The women’s hockey team looked to start things off with a bang, with 2 preseason exhibition matches slated before the start of the regular season. The first would be against the Rome Grizzlies, a u19 pay-to-play hockey organization from the Mohawk Valley.

Penfield Library hosted its annual “Oz Reads Banned Books” event to kick off Banned Books Week, following the rising number of books banned or challenged in various public schools across the country. “People often don’t realize how relevant book banning is to them, even if it’s not happening in their community,” Nicole Westerdahl, a librarian at Penfield, said.
Oswego State volleyball goes 2-2 in Misericordia Tournament

The Oswego State volleyball team traveled to Dallas, PA to face off against a handful of teams in the Misericordia tournament. The Lakers faced Centenary University and Alfred University on Sep. 28. The Lakers’ first matchup of the day came against the Centenary Cyclones and the Lakers desperately needed a win, sitting at a 7-9 record. The Cyclones picked up the first points of the game and plenty of them as they jumped to a 3-0 lead after errors from the Lakers.
Oswego State women’s soccer dominates SUNY Canton on the road

The Oswego State women’s soccer team had their first in-conference game against the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons on Sep. 28. The first period kicked off and before you even knew it, the Red Dragons had a point on the board. The Lakers were kicking the ball down the field until a bad pass gave the Red Dragons an opportunity to score.
