Property experts in Spain have insisted the scrapping of the Golden Visa scheme will have ‘very little impact’ on house prices or demand. The programme, first launched in 2013, allowed people from outside the EU to become a resident in Spain if they spent €500,000 on real estate or made certain business investments. According to Ministry of Housing statistics, the majority of applicants hailed from China, Russia, the UK, US, Ukraine, Iran, Venezuela and Mexico.

A Malaga nightclub descended into chaos over the weekend when a woman allegedly launched a pepper spray attack and forced an emergency evacuation. The incident occurred at around 3.50am on Saturday at Sala Leblon, where around 300 people were dancing the night away. The crowds began to experience itchy throats and coughing fits, while some even had difficulty breathing. The nightclub’s managers launched an evacuation after being hit with the same symptoms.

The impounding of a British ice cream van in Benidorm has sparked some frosty responses from locals and expats. In a boastful announcement on Facebook this week, the Policia Local force said it was ‘game over’ for ‘Barbie’, the nickname it gave the vehicle thanks to its bright pink colour. The van had no licence to sell food, ice cream, nor any other product. It was also found to be lacking in hygiene standards. It said in a statement: ‘Barbie is back in Benidorm, but we caught her.

The Horizontal Property Law came into effect this week and gave new powers to homeowners across the country. Anyone wanting an Airbnb-style flat must get the approval of 60% of other homeowners in the building. Failing to do so will give them the right to veto your licence to operate.
