Sherry Denby, of Sparta, was recently elected to membership into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society, at Tennessee Technological University. Denby is among approximately 20,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.

Before last Tuesday night’s game, the Warriorettes celebrated Crestin Sullivan by walking the bases to score a run toward autism awareness. The eighth-grade softball players walked the bases with Sullivan, a student at White County Middle School. After the ceremonial touching of all four bases, the Warriorettes got down to work, moving to 7-1 on the season as they gook a 4-3 win over Livingston.

White County High School softball team looked outmatched April 3 when they hosted the Stone Memorial Lady Panthers. The Warriorettes struggled on both offense and defense resulting in a 10-4 loss to a district opponent. The Lady Panthers took charge of the game right from the start putting four runs on the scoreboard in their first at bat and adding three more in the second inning.

Homeschooled senior Gabriel Wiles was recently named a National Merit Finalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. To achieve this honor, Wiles first took the PSAT as a junior and scored in the top 1% of the 1.3 million students who took the exam. He then had to complete a detailed scholarship application, which included his academic record, participation in school, and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.
