The Sportsman (UK)

Sport is more than just a hobby for us; it’s part of who we are. First launched as a newspaper in 1865—coincidentally the same year W.G. Grace made his debut at just 16 years old—The Sportsman quickly gained a reputation for featuring some of the best writers in the country. It also played a vital role in the development of a major sporting institution. Charles W. Alcock, the secretary of the Football Association, wrote for The Sportsman and held a meeting at our offices in 1871, which led to the creation of the FA Cup, the world's first national football tournament. Today, The Sportsman has evolved into a versatile digital platform, yet our dedication to delivering exceptional sports content is as strong as it was 150 years ago. Our goal is straightforward: to go beyond just the scores and uncover the stories that truly matter—whether they come from devoted fans, sporting legends, or the latest trends in style, fashion, and technology. In essence, we aim to provide you with fresh insights and information that spark engaging discussions before, during, and long after the game, rather than just rehashing the same headlines you’ve already seen.
