The Sprawl

The Sprawl is a unique pop-up journalism initiative based in Calgary. We started in September 2017 to focus on the city's municipal election. What began as a creative experiment to sustain local journalism during challenging times has blossomed into a thriving project, thanks to a tremendous amount of community backing. Our funding comes entirely from supporters on Patreon. Our mission at The Sprawl is to share stories that resonate with Calgarians. The flexible setup of our operation allows us to easily launch and dismantle our setup to focus on specific events and issues. This pop-up approach, along with your support, makes our work possible.
