SINGAPORE – Scammers posing as Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) officers have stolen at least $3 million from 46 or more victims since June, by exploiting WhatsApp’s screen sharing function to spy on their banking details. In this type of scam, victims would receive calls on local numbers, with the callers claiming to be from firms such as NTUC Income, NTUC Union or Unionpay, the police said on June 26.

SINGAPORE – A total of 39 motorists, aged between 26 and 61, will be charged with drink driving on June 26. In a statement on June 25, the police said the motorists, 35 men and four women, were arrested between March and June after failing a breathalyser test. Five of them, aged between 33 and 61, will also be given an additional charge over leaving their vehicles in a manner that caused undue inconvenience to others.

SINGAPORE - A 34-year-old man died in the hospital after being involved in an accident between two lorries on the Central Expressway towards the Seletar Expressway on June 25. The police said they were alerted to the accident at about 1.55pm, and that two people were taken to the hospital. The dead man was a passenger in one of the lorries and needed to be extricated with hydraulic rescue equipment after he was trapped. He was unconscious when taken to hospital.
