SINGAPORE - The 2025 General Election saw a turnout of 92.83 per cent - or 2,438,610 - of the 2,627,026 registered voters in contested constituencies casting their ballots, after the addition of overseas voters. SINGAPORE – A new drug based on gene-editing technology could soon provide respite to patients suffering from a rare and potentially fatal genetic heart disease. Transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM) is a rare disease of the heart muscle that involves deformed transthyretin (TTR) proteins building up in the heart, nerves and other organs. As a result of the protein build-up, the walls of the heart become thickened and stiff.

MASSACHUSETTS - Harvard University expanded its lawsuit against the Trump administration on May 13, hours after the government said it was ending about US$450 million (S$585 million) in research funding to the school. The battle between the administration and the nation’s oldest university has been intensifying since April 11, when the government sent Harvard a list of intrusive demands in a mistakenly emailed missive.

SINGAPORE - A new undergraduate college at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) will take in its first batch of about 500 students from August 2025. The first batch of the NTU Honours College, which caters to high-potential students, will comprise those enrolled in the university’s signature programmes, said NTU on May 13. These include programmes like the CN Yang Scholars Programme, the Renaissance Engineering Programme, and the University Scholars Programme.
