The Trail Posse

The Trail Posse

The Trail Posse is a non-profit initiative focused on advocacy journalism, dedicated to exploring issues of race and equity in outdoor spaces. This important work is supported by individuals such as Maggie Walker, Craig McKibben, and Sarah Merner, as well as the National Audubon Society. As a founding member of The Next 100 Coalition, Trail Posse amplifies the voices of all racial groups, offering a national platform for news, information, and community engagement. They highlight role models and inspiring figures of color, providing impactful written, visual, and audio content that educates and empowers. The organization emphasizes the importance of outdoor spaces for both physical and mental health in our increasingly urban environment, advocating for national parks as a fundamental right for all citizens. Their vision aims to ensure that by 2044, the projected non-white majority in the U.S. will have a strong connection to our planet and be actively involved in addressing its environmental issues.

This is the most cohesive calendar I’ve ever produced. Check out the images below and the theme should be staring you right in the face. The cover is an homage to the red fox known to many as “Eclipse,” who was struck by a car and killed this past year at San Juan Island National Historical Park. Eclipse graced the cover of last year’s calendar, as well as my Pacific Northwest Magazine story and photos for The Seattle Times.

I am excited about my 2024 calendar! It features birds and wildlife, all from “near nature,” ie., western Washington state. It reaffirms my commitment to advocating that people don’t have to travel far and to exotic places to explore and connect to nature in an exciting and meaningful way. The cover also was the cover shot for my Pacific Northwest Magazine story and photos for The Seattle Times.

TwitterFacebookLinkedInEmailAlmost 10 years ago, Short-Eared Owls were the first birds I intentionally set out to photograph. It was a windy, rainy day, and I never saw one of the storied winter owls of the Pacific Northwest. So I kept searching. Eventually, I found them, but could never get close enough. Or I was lacking the photographic skills.
