In addition to the various in-person and Zoom tastings I attended here in Los Angeles, I traveled to Paso Robles to delve into the wineries of the CAB Collective. I ventured to Oregon to visit the Umpqua Valley, Tualatin Valley, and Willamette Valley for wine. While on the East Coast, I visited Finger Lakes and Laurel Highlands, Pennsylvania.

In 2024, my travel explorations took me to Finger Lakes, Rochester, Laurel Highlands, Paso Robles, Umpqua Valley, Tualatin Valley, and Los Olivos. As has become the norm, I traveled both virtually and in person. Enjoy my travel 2024, year in review, as I continue to broaden my horizons with new places to explore. This year, my travel was more limited because one of my trips took me to Portland to breed my dog. We were blessed with six cream Salukis, all of which went to wonderful homes.

Jones Von Drehle Vineyards & Winery is a family-owned winery in the Yadkin Valley on undulating south-facing hills near Thurmond, North Carolina. The tasting room, perched at the top, offers breathtaking vineyard views. The Owners, Chuck and Diana Jones and Ronnie and Raymond von Drehle, are in-laws who wanted to start a winery in their home state. This winery is a favorite that I discovered while visiting North Carolina.

Before attending the 2024 IFWTWA conference in Finger Lakes, New York, the idea of exploring Rochester NY, a nearby city, never occurred to me. Now that I've done a three-day tour, I can emphatically say that Rochester is one of America's best mid-sized cities. With many unique museums, historical sites from the Abolitionist and Suffrage movements, river boat tours, urban breweries and wineries, world-class dining, and a plethora of outdoor activities, Rochester has something for everyone.

Ghost Hill Cellars' name invokes a haunted or spooky past. The legend is part of the history of the Bayliss family's 234-acre property and its land stewardship. The property is located in the Y amhill-Carlton AVA and has been in the family since 1906. The Legend of Ghost Hill CellarsWith the purchase of the Donation Land Claim of James and Edith Greene in 1906, the illustrious tale that gives Ghost Hill Cellars its name came with the property. In the 1850s, like California, Oregon got the gold bug.
Yakima Valley: Washington's First AVA

Washington State, the second-largest wine region, is home to over 80 grape varieties. The area's wine history dates back to 1825, when the Hudson Bay Company first planted grapes. Today, the region is home to 1050+ wineries and 400+ growers. The Yakima Valley, Washington State's first AVA since 1983, represents a quarter of the total planted acreage and is known for its diversity. Prior to becoming an AVA, the first grapes were planted in the area in 1914 by W.B. Bridgman.
