It’s common to fall into a routine when striving after a goal. This may be a set workout routine, a work routine, or perhaps a holistic daily routine. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Because your routine ensures consistency, which is needed to achieve most every aim. As time goes on, however, it’s common for your routine to change. And there’s nothing inherently wrong with this either. Because the world and everything in it is always changing, us included.

It’s a part of life. If we want something, we must sacrifice something else we have to get it, be it free time, money, energy, you name it. And all of us want something. Okay, probably many somethings, if we’re being honest. So, we sacrifice.

So, looking at others and trying to keep up with the Joneses (or, in today’s society, everyone’s social media highlights) is a recipe for failure.

We all hold onto things. Often things that aren’t worth holding onto. Between grudges, anger, toxic relationships, excessive material possessions, and more, it’s commonly in our best interest to relinquish that which doesn’t serve us. Yet as hard as this is, that’s usually the easy part. When you let something go, the real hard part is not picking it back up. There are countless things you may have to let go of. Just like there are countless reasons you may finally let things go.

No matter who you are, what you’re doing, or where you want to go, it’s important to check in with yourself. It’s something you probably already do when it comes to your appearance. Whether it’s after a shower or in between meetings, you probably make time to look in a physical mirror (or your phone camera on selfie mode) and adjust your hair or clothing based on what you see. In the same way, you should make time to hold up the metaphorical mirror and check in with yourself.
