7 When I was 12 I saw the Grand Canyon for about 2 minutes, Chevy Chase “Vacation”-style. 2 Walking a mile can be easy. Walking a mile with a suitcase or if you are on crutches or in a wheelchair? That’s not always so easy, especially if you encounter sets of stairs. Google Maps has a way for you to avoid stairs when walking. Open the app and put in your location and select the walking option. Then click on the three dots on the top right and select 0ptions at the bottom. Under trip options, select wheelchair accessible, which allows you to avoid stairs and prefer elevators.

1 There’s one thing you can’t learn from photos of accommodations when you book them – what the noise levels will be. I stayed in a hotel in NYC where we were supplied earplugs to drown out the noise of the rooftop bar, which were only partially effective. I travel with this portable noise machine, the LectroFan Micro2, which is just over 2″ tall and features a Bluetooth enabled speaker. I have my choice of 11 sounds: five fans, four white noise and two ocean surf, my favorites.
