WORCESTER – Natale Cosenza, a former Worcester man who served 16 years in prison before a court overturned his conviction in 2016, has reached a settlement of his case with the City of Worcester. Loevy and Loevy, a Chicago-based law firm that represented Cosenza in the civil lawsuit, announced that the two sides reached “a confidential settlement agreement” where the City of Worcester agreed to pay Cosenza a portion of the verdict amount.

SPRINGFIELD – A federal judge in Springfield sentenced a local man to seven years in prison for drug distribution. U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni sentenced Angel Delgado, 47, of Webster, after he pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine in January. Law enforcement arrested Delgado in April 2024.

WORCESTER – United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1445, the union which represents over 1000 workers within the UMass Memorial Medical Center system in Worcester, provided hospital leadership the official 10-day notice for strike action on Friday, May 31. The contract between the union and UMass expires on June 8. If the two sides have not reached an agreement by Monday, the union says it intends to request a vote of its members to authorize a strike.

WORCESTER – A report of an individual with a firearm on Pleasant Street led to the arrest of a local man on drug and gun charges on Friday, May 30. Police arrived at the scene and determined a description of the man. Officers later noticed a man on Main Street meeting the description provided. Upon seeing the officers, the man fled on foot through the Worcester Common. According to the Worcester Police Department, the man had a firearm drawn as he fled.
