It’s not an accident that those doing the most to harm the world are doing the most to protect themselves from the harm that they are causing. From building massive nuclear fallout-resistant compounds to rocket ships to take them out of here, those whose idea of utopia is more more more are creating a dystopia for the rest of us called less less less. It’s not that these guys aren’t brilliant, because many of them are. The problem is that their vision of the future has no soul.

Many clergy, psychotherapists, healers and social workers these days are seeing in the people they deal with a high level of anxiety, much higher than usual. That’s in stark contrast, of course, to the MAGA enthusiasts celebrating what they deem to be the beginnings of a marvelous Golden Age. As one woman told a friend of mine recently, she feels like “America is back!” To many, however, it feels like the America we knew is shutting down.
