    The opening of a sports field complex in Brandon, Man. is behind schedule and is now expected to open sometime in July. The inability of construction work to take place during the winter factored into the delay. The Brandon Sun reports the city’s website noted that Cougars Field – a lit, artificial turf soccer field – was set to open on June 1, but the municipality hadn’t updated its site. In addition to Cougars Field, the complex will also include five other soccer fields and a cricket pitch.

    A municipal councillor in Owen Sound wants the city to amend its yard maintenance bylaws to allow for taller grass heights that would promote pollinator habitat. Bayshore Broadcasting reports the current bylaw allows lawns to grow to four inches, but Coun. Jon Farmer is seeking to have the allotted height increased to keep pace with neighbouring municipalities. He plans to introduce his motion at the June 16 council meeting.     Nelson, B.C.’s Granite Pointe Golf Course is assuming it will operate for a full 2025 season despite being told in April the season would be shortened. The Trail Times reports a developer who purchased 17.5 acres of the property with plans to develop it with 360 housing units has not come forward with any new updates on its plans, leaving the golf club’s board of directors to move forward with the assumption golf operations will continue until the fall.

    Work is expected to get underway this week in Salmon Arm, B.C. on a new artificial turf sports field at Blackburn Park. The $1-million project has been awarded to Lessard Excavating and is a partnership arrangement between the city and the Shuswap Youth Soccer Association. Castanet reports the synthetic turf surface will allow for a longer playing season. The field will be able to be configured into two smaller fields of a full-size layout, depending on the age level of its users.
