Ultimas Noticias (Venezuela)

Últimas Noticias is Venezuela's top-selling daily newspaper. It was established in Caracas on September 16, 1941, following President Medina Angarita's pro-freedom initiatives. Originally named Diario del Pueblo, meaning "the people's newspaper," it was founded by Víctor Simone D´Lima, “Kotepa” Delgado, Vaughan Salas Lozada, and Pedro Beroes. In 1948, Miguel Ángel Capriles Ayala purchased a majority stake in the paper and has been the president of La Cadena Capriles since 1998. The newspaper underwent a relaunch on October 16, 2000, adopting a more conversational style and focusing on being a practical guide for everyday life. By mid-2002, it began printing in color on all pages. Between 2004 and 2006, it introduced four regional editions for various areas of Greater Caracas in addition to the national edition. In 2013, the newspaper was sold to an investment group that was reportedly more aligned with the Venezuelan government for a price estimated between $160-180 million.
