Underscore_SF
Established in 2022, Underscore_SF was created with the belief that the true essence of San Francisco — and the wider Bay Area — lies in its hidden gems. It’s all about the unique traits, quirks, and characteristics that set it apart. In this city, melodies that might otherwise fade away resonate across its 44 hills, creating a vibrant symphony. San Francisco stands as a hub for progressive ideas, navigating its challenges with a spirit of resilience and awareness. Living in this seven-by-seven mile expanse means embracing contrasts and complexities with purpose. Underscore_SF is dedicated to highlighting the diverse personalities, narratives, and voices that make this part of Northern California so special. We’re not afraid to hold people accountable and take a stand against unethical behavior and corruption. We take pride in being unconventional, outspoken, and deeply connected to our local community. Unlike many large corporate entities, Underscore_SF is independently owned and operated, stepping in to fill the gap left by indie publications in the Bay Area that have disappeared over the last decade. Our mission is to create a welcoming space — a digital haven, if you will — that celebrates the genuine spirit of San Francisco. We appreciate your support as we continue this journey together.

The double-headed serpent is housed inside Northern California’s largest reptile shop and has already eaten nine times to great success. The odds of being struck by lightning are comparatively high; you’d likely get hit by an atmospheric bolt about 215 times before you’d ever get bit by a shark — a one in roughly three million happenstance event. But for a reptile to be born with two functioning heads is an entirely different scale of rarity … think about one in four hundred million births.

The San Francisco Bay Area is iconic for its memeability. Silicon Valley investors, gaggles of tech bros, out-of-touch one percenters (who demand their nannies have at least four-year college educations, preferably in psychology fields), and the overt startup culture have led to head scratching behaviours that could only happen there. In the age of social media, no longer are those shenanigans reserved only to those who glimpsed them briefly IRL or scrolled past them on dial-up connections.

Public transit usage is increasing across the SF Bay Area, but budgetary woes still plague transit agencies across the region — an issue nearly ubiquitous across all major American metros, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic decimated those public transit departments. SFMTA faces an over $300 million budgetary deficit; AC Transit’s $35 million debt continues ballooning; BART’s ongoing budgetary issues are now north of $400 million … or more.
