University of Oxford
The University of Oxford is a research-focused collegiate university located in Oxford, England. It has a rich history of teaching that dates back to 1096, making it the oldest university in the English-speaking world and the second-oldest university still in operation globally. The university saw significant growth starting in 1167 when King Henry II prohibited English students from attending the University of Paris. In 1209, following conflicts between students and the local residents of Oxford, some scholars moved northeast to establish what would later become the University of Cambridge. Today, these two historic institutions are often collectively known as Oxbridge, as they share many similarities.
