A half-dozen years after redevelopment concepts initially emerged, plans for converting a warehouse complex in Southwest Atlanta into more active uses are showing signs of life, with a timeline for completion now in place. Invest Atlanta, the city’s economic development arm, is expected to approve $3 million in Beltline Tax Allocation District increment financing to help start phase-one construction of Oakland Exchange, an adaptive-reuse project in Oakland City near the Beltline’s Westside Trail.

Officials with Atlanta-based Sovereign Realty Management send word that a new, 21-home Gwinnett County community called Forkview has wrapped construction, offering what they call an “innovative urban housing development” in the ’burbs.

The Athens-based developer behind recent Atlant high-rise projects such as The Legacy at Centennial and a forthcoming tower beside The Varsity in Midtown is beefing up its local presence by dipping toes in office acquisitions. Headquartered in Athens, residential real estate firm Landmark Properties has acquired Northcreek Office Park, a four-building, Class A office campus near Interstate 75 in Buckhead, between Midtown and Cumberland.

Historic Decatur Square’s first makeover since the early 1980s is officially a go. The initial $8.5-million phase of Decatur’s Town Center Plan 2.0 project, an initiative put together by the city and its Downtown Development Authority, is scheduled to break ground during a public celebration beginning at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. They’re calling the first phase of work The Square ShakeUp. Its goal is to open up, reshape, and better utilize what’s long been the epicenter of activity in Downtown Decatur.
