Scottish Champion, 24 year old Logan Maclean (unattached) took a fine win in the Gifford Road Race on Saturday March 15th, outsprinting ex-Zappi man Alexander Ball (BCC Race Team) and Noah Bleteau (Paris Cycliste Olympique) after a hard-fought 120-kilometre battle on the rolling East Lothian roads on a rather chilly but beautifully sunny Saturday afternoon. The winning move formed with three laps to go, Maclean forcing the split along with Ball, Bleteau, and James Jobber (Hurricane & Thunder CT).

Our riders are not involved in the morning session which sees the Sprinters racing a Keirin and going for their lap times, whilst it’s a busy session for the Women, with a Derny race, a Points Race, an Elimination and a Madison. I take a wander down from our upstairs room to see what’s going on.

The u19 riders at the Bremen Six Day began their 45 minutes Madison at 10.00am but we don’t have to be down at the trackside cabins at that time – our boys aren’t on the track until until half twelve for a 30 minute Chase, and an extra hour in bed is very welcome indeed.

Looking through Calum Moir’s races for 2024 we can see he’s ridden mostly in Spain this season, and mostly on the road, with a few top 20 results – one of them third place in the Gran Premio Ciclista Ciudad de Fuenlabrada, but there’s a lot more to this young man, who’s capable of a 1’03” Kilometre and a 3’22” Individual Pursuit on the track.

Edinburgh rider Innes McDonald (Scottish Offroad Race Team) is only 16 years old but already has 11 years of riding and racing under his wheels. Last season Innes won the British U16 Cyclocross Championship and this year he has taken the Scottish Junior CycloCross title, the British Junior XCC Championship, the British Junior/Senior XCC Series, as well as the fifth round of theBritish Cycling National Cross Country Series.
