For the third consecutive season, Oak Ridge High School's varsity softball team wins the Division 1 Sac-Joaquin Section championship, topping nationally ranked No. 11 Del Oro on Saturday at California State University, Sacramento. The No. 23 Trojans trailed 1-0 until scoring three runs in the sixth and hanging on to win 3-2. “It means the world just because of all the hard work we put in,” said senior Carmen Montes de Oca, who has been on all three title teams.

For the third year in a row Oak Ridge High School varsity softball is headed to California State University, Sacramento, to play in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 championship after a walk-off 4-3 victory in the semifinals Tuesday against Tracy. The Trojans are ranked No. 23 in the nation and trailed Tracy 3-2 heading into the final inning before senior Carmen Montes De Oca scored the game winning run. “I was jumping up and down,” said Oak Ridge head coach Sam Toy.

The Rotary Club of El Dorado Hills and local educators celebrated Weston Losch as the Silva Valley Elementary School Student of the Year at a recent meeting. "Weston is always up to the challenge," noted teacher Cami Soetaert, adding that he always comes to school prepared and asks a lot of questions. "He tries so hard at anything you ask him to do," added teacher Ginny Van Teslaar, who called Weston a helpful, happy student.

El Dorado County firefighters jumped into action Monday afternoon after a grass fire broke out in the Blackstone community of El Dorado Hills during critical red flag conditions. El Dorado Hills Fire Department, Cal Fire and El Dorado County Fire Protection District crews responded shortly after 4 p.m. on May 19 and contained the blaze to 4 acres. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.

Japan's Honda Motor on Tuesday forecast a 70 percent drop in net profit for the 2025-26 financial year as US trade tariffs weigh on the global auto industry. The announcement comes after rival Toyota, the world's top-selling carmaker, predicted a 35 percent year-on-year drop in annual net profit because of the levies and other factors.
