With the Virginia High School League spring sports season now complete All-Region 3D teams were released for publication in the past week. William Byrd wasrepresented in baseball, softball and both soccer teams. In baseball, senior Kam McKee was named to the first team in the outfield. Second team selections were junior JW Vaughan at catcher and junior Cannin Lutz atthird base. Honorable Mention went to junior Connor Jones at pitcher and junior JakeCourtemanche at shortstop.

By Debbie AdamsVinton Town Council adopted a resolution awarding the construction contract for the VintonWar Memorial Park to G & H Contracting, Inc. at the council meeting on June 17. Two bids werereceived for the project – one from G & H Contracting and one from KNA Contracting, LLC. Thebids were advertised on April 28 and due on May 27. G & H Contracting submitted the low bid of $884,730.

The Vinton Area Chamber of Commerce hosted their first Mingle at the Market concert of the2025 summer season at the Vinton Farmers’ Market on June 14. The weather forecast had calledfor thunderstorms—that didn’t happen. The Chamber hoped for a large crowd—they showed up. “Our first Mingle in the Market was a huge success,” said Vinton Area Chamber of CommercePresident Page Lovern. “A big thanks to our volunteers First Citizens Bank, Defy Gravity, andthe WBHS football team.
