WCXL (104.1 FM) is a powerful radio station with a broadcasting capacity of 100,000 watts, offering a hot adult contemporary music format. Located in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, it caters to listeners in the Outer Banks and Hampton Roads regions. The station is owned by Jam Media Solutions, LLC, with its studios situated in Nags Head, North Carolina, while its transmitter is positioned in Powells Point, North Carolina, close to the Outer Banks. In 2004, WCXL transitioned from relying on satellite programming to featuring live, local DJs. WCXL has made its mark in Arbitron's ratings within the Hampton Roads market. Previously owned by Ray-D-O Biz LLC, the station was originally known as WXAI from November 29, 1991, before it was rebranded on March 29, 1992. It has been popularly referred to as "XL104." The 104.1 frequency was highly sought after, with three competing groups—East Carolina Radio, Coastal Broadcasting, and Ray-D-O Biz—jockeying for it over an eight-year period, until Ray-D-O Biz secured the frequency in the early 1990s.
