One of Broadway’s most popular musicals of all time is coming to the West Valley Performing Arts Center. “A Chorus Line” opens on April 11 and plays each Thursday through Saturday until May 3. The center is located at 3333 Decker Lake Drive in West Valley City. With music by Marvin Hanlisch and lyrics by Edward Kleban, “A Chorus Line” depicts the trauma and tension of a real Broadway ensemble audition–the nerves, the excitement and the bittersweet ambitions of performers along The Great White Way.

Its student body is small, slightly over 200 in number, and its focus is to help each of these young people achieve all they can with the fruits (and vegetables and farm animals) of their labors. Roots High School was founded in 2015 by Tyler Bastian, a former documentary film maker who turned his career toward educating and motivating youth.
Cindy Wood selected to fill vacancy on city council

Cindy Wood, who has served on the West Valley City Planning Commission for almost eight years, will now get a chance to make decisions as a city councilmember. Wood was selected from a group of 15 candidates by the council on Jan. 28 to fill the vacant seat of Jake Fitisemanu, who was elected to the Utah State Legislature last November. She will represent District 4, which consists of the southwest corner of the city.

It might still be cold and wintry outside, but spring and summer activities are not that far away. Organizers of events in West Valley City are gearing up for several events. The 2025 West Valley City Farmers Market will be held on Thursday nights starting June 19 at Centennial Park (5405 W. 3100 South). The markets will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. each week through Oct. 9. As always, they’ll feature locally grown or handmade items, entertainment, food for purchase at the park, and more.

After the curtain fell on Hunter High’s production of “Moana Jr.,” the hallways buzzed with excitement. Parents beamed with pride, classmates shared hugs, and friends and family snapped photos. Amid the celebration, one actor quietly sat with his father, away from the noise. This was no ordinary cast. The production featured a unified ensemble, where students of all abilities worked together, supporting each other with lines, music, and stage positioning in a collaborative and inclusive environment.

It’s the 30-year anniversary of the Utah Grizzlies Hockey Club, a franchise continuing a proud history of ice hockey to the Beehive State. Since 1995, the Grizzlies have been members of the International Hockey League, the American Hockey League, and now the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). The Salt Lake market has always been hockey country, going back to the highly-successful Salt Lake Golden Eagles in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s.

Students living in the Granite School District have a multitude of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. No where is that more apparent than at Hunter High School, where each year senior class officers hold a Multicultural Assembly. This year’s assembly was held on Dec. 9. “Hunter is so blessed to have many awesome and unique cultures,” said Amy McVey, senior class advisor at Hunter.
