Where Peter Is
This website was created by a devoted group of Catholics who are increasingly worried about the criticisms aimed at Pope Francis and his teachings from within the Church. Throughout his time as pope, he has faced accusations from a small group of radical traditionalists and rigid dogmatists, who claim he spreads confusion, teaches falsehoods, and is even a heretic. Although the group opposing Francis is limited in size, it includes a mix of notable laypeople, priests, bishops, and cardinals. Many of his most vocal critics have strong platforms in various media, including print, television, and online. These critics often see themselves as the gatekeepers of Church teachings, labeling those who support the pope as dissenters from true Church doctrine. Since this faction is relatively small, many of their claims have not been adequately challenged. They express serious concerns, but those who support the pope often overlook or dismiss their arguments. In response to this situation, the writers on this site have chosen to confront these criticisms by sharing links to useful resources and offering original essays that defend the orthodoxy and faithfulness of Pope Francis. We also plan to discuss key themes and important issues facing the Church, particularly in the context of Pope Francis’s leadership. Where Peter is, there is the Church.

On Wednesday, I wrote an article imploring a US bishop to reach out to a congressman he has praised and with whom he is a friend on behalf of immigrants who were — without due process — deported and imprisoned in a supermax facility in El Salvador. It seemed apt to draw attention to betrayals of our religious leaders on Spy Wednesday, the day when we recall Judas’s betrayal of Christ. Today, Good Friday, we recall the Sacrifice that Christ made for us all.

Yesterday, Rep. Riley Moore, a Republican congressman from West Virginia, posted four photos to his social media pages. They were taken inside the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), a notorious Salvadoran supermax prison known for its extreme conditions and capacity of 40,000 inmates. At least 265 prisoners recently transferred there were deportees from the United States. In one image, Moore poses in front of a prison block, flashing “two thumbs up” as inmates crowd behind him.

I’m thrilled to announce that my new book, The Unknown Modern Side of St. Pius X, is officially out and available for purchase on Amazon! The timing couldn’t be more fitting. Just yesterday, Pope Francis—making one of his first public appearances since being discharged from the hospital—was seen at St. Peter’s Basilica visiting the tomb of St. Pius X. As I explain in the book, Francis has a personal devotion to Pius X, underscoring the deep connection between these two pontiffs.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of one of the most powerfully prophetic social justice and peace encyclicals ever written: Evangelium Vitae (“The Gospel of Life”).

Lent calls us to reflect on sin – my sin, your sin, the nation’s sin, the church’s sin, the world’s sin. Sin may seem attractive when we’re committing it, but afterwards, we often would rather not think about it, examine it, nor humbly admit it. Because doing so brings us to the truth that our sin is ugly and hurtful, it causes suffering not only to ourselves, but also to others, to our world, to our church, and especially to God.
