Founded in 1980 in Washington, D.C., WHUT-TV, originally known as WHMM, is a television station operated by Howard University. It holds the distinction of being the first public television station in the U.S. to be licensed to and run by a historically black college and university (HBCU). WHUT-TV's broadcasts reach over 2.5 million households within a 60-mile radius. The station is dedicated to supporting Howard University's mission of excellence, leadership, and public service. For almost four decades, WHUT has established itself as a leader in broadcast communications, delivering high-quality programming that is both relevant and informative to the Greater Washington, D.C. community, while also providing outstanding professional training in television production, engineering, and management.
