You may have heard that public media outlets across the country are facing serious threats to federal and state funding. On June 12th, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 4, the Recissions Act of 2025, a bill that would rescind $1.1 billion in already-approved funding for public media. If passed, WICN stands to lose over 25% of our total funding. The loss of public funding would devastate what listeners, members, and supports like you have helped build over the past 57 years.

When you listen to a jazz vocalist for the first time, whether they have a local, national, or international reputation, chances are that you, as a listener, have both anticipation and expectation. As an avid listener with decades of experience, I know full well that, unlike instrumentalists, jazz vocalists cannot hide musically. Guitarists have block chords to retreat to if their solo strays, as do pianists. Bassists have standard scales to run to if they go off the mark.
