WKGC-FM (Panama City, FL)

WKGC-FM (90.7 FM) is a radio station based in Panama City, Florida, USA, and is owned by Gulf Coast State College. The station was founded in 1968 by two students from Gulf Coast, Charles Wooten and Ron Johnson. They originally had limited resources, using only donated materials to create a 100-milliwatt AM signal that could reach the student center with rock music. WKGC-FM officially began broadcasting on October 21, 1974, with a power of ten watts. Over the next two years, the college's District Board of Trustees allocated $20,000 for the station's growth. However, with the help of tower space donated by local radio station WDLP, WKGC-FM managed to expand to 9,200 watts while only spending $13,000 of the budget.
