MONTANDON – There will be a daytime road closure next week on Housels Run Road in Montandon, West Chillisquaque Township, Northumberland County, for a pipe replacement project. Starting Monday, April 14, Housels Run Road will be closed between Route 45 and Sodom Road, while a PennDOT maintenance crew replaces a cross pipe. Work includes milling of the roadway, removal of the deteriorated cross pipe, installation of the new pipe, back filling, and paving.

The Selinsgrove Regional Engagement Center (REC) has been awarded $167,000 through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency’s BOOST program. The grant is part of $11.6 million distributed statewide to support at-risk youth. Other local recipients include Firetree Place in Lycoming County, which will receive $175,000, and the Paul W. Delauter Youth Center in Juniata County, awarded $20,000.

NORTHUMBERLAND – A garage was destroyed by a fire in Northumberland Monday evening. No one was hurt, the two-story detached garage was nearly leveled, and some neighboring homes had minor damage. The 6:45pm alarm went in for the garage at the rear of 696 Duke Street, at the Seventh Street intersection. Northumberland Fire Department Chief Steve Swineford told us the fire is considered accidental, and a state police fire marshal will help pinpoint the cause.
Christmas Eve Fire Guts Montour County Home, Five Homeless

DANVILLE – Five people are homeless after a fire hit a home in the Danville area Tuesday morning. Emergency crews braved frigid conditions to combat the fire on Klondike Road in Liberty Township, Montour County. The blaze, reported at approximately 2am, drew responses from three volunteer fire companies, Liberty, Valley and Mahoning Township, and Geisinger EMS. Despite their efforts, the fire left five residents homeless.

HARRISBURG – Some reindeer got a greenlight for Christmas Eve. The state Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding, a state veterinarian, and the state’s Tourism Office director joined Santa. They were there with Santa’s reindeer at Hersheypark Monday to announce the team’s clean bill of health, clearing them for Christmas Eve deliveries across Pennsylvania.
