WXPR-FM (Rhinelander, WI)
WXPR (91.7 FM) is a community-focused public radio station that caters to listeners in north central Wisconsin and parts of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Located in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, the station is operated by White Pine Community Broadcasting, a nonprofit organization dedicated to education. As a member of National Public Radio, WXPR provides a variety of programming to its audience. The studio is situated at 28 N. Stevens St. in downtown Rhinelander, in a historic building that used to house the local newspaper. The station's transmitter is located off Oneida County Highway A, positioned between Sugar Camp and Three Lakes, Wisconsin, to the southwest of Thunder Lake. In addition to its main frequency, WXPR also runs a satellite station, WXPW, at 91.9 FM in Wausau. WXPW operates in a share-time agreement with WLBL-FM, which is part of Wisconsin Public Radio's Ideas Network. WXPW broadcasts from 6 pm to midnight from Monday to Thursday, and from 6 pm on Friday until 5 pm on Sunday.

It hit wild birds and some other wildlife like foxes hard in 2022 in Wisconsin. For the last year, it’s been killing poultry and has spread to cattle and humans. In the last couple of months, it has once again been showing up in wild bird populations in the state.

U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum has ordered a halt to an offshore wind project near the coast of Long Island. Today, Equinor, the Norwegian energy company that owns and operates the project, announced it is complying with the order and suspending all construction. President Trump, a longtime critic of wind energy, issued a moratorium on new development of offshore wind projects, one of his first executive orders upon returning to the White House.

Rhinelander residents could get a hazard tree removed one planted in its place, at no charge to them, through a grant funded project by the City of Rhinelander. Plus, for every tree planted on private property, one will be planted on public property. Rhinelander City Forester Tom Jerow says they’ll be concentrating on planting trees that support pollinators.
