WYLL-AM (Chicago, IL)
WYLL (1160 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station based in Chicago, Illinois. Owned by Salem Communications, it broadcasts a Christian talk and teaching format. The station's studios and offices are situated in Elk Grove Village, while its daytime transmitter operates from a two-tower setup located off Ballard Road near Interstate 294 in Des Plaines. At night, it uses a different transmitter and a six-tower array positioned off Deer Drive near Interstate 355 in Lockport. WYLL operates at a power level of 50,000 watts, which is the highest allowed for commercial AM stations in the United States. However, it must always use a directional antenna to ensure it does not interfere with KSL in Salt Lake City, the primary Class A station on the 1160 AM frequency. The programming on WYLL includes shows from well-known national religious figures such as Dr. David Jeremiah, John MacArthur, Rick Warren, Chuck Swindoll, and Jim Daly. Additionally, some local pastors from the Chicago area host their own programs. These hosts often pay for their airtime and may use their shows as a platform to raise funds for their ministries.
