The St John's Wood Society has its roots in 1956, when a group formed to protect the unique character of the neighborhood. That year, residents were alarmed by St Marylebone Council's proposal to replace the charming Victorian lamp-posts of St John’s Wood with modern street lighting that didn’t fit the area's aesthetic.
