Concentrated solar power (CSP) technology has a substantial potential to contribute to sustainable electricity generation in the upcoming decades, provided efficient energy storage systems are developed to address the oscillating nature of solar flux. Currently, commercial CSP plants convert heat from solar radiation to electric power at efficiencies of less than 20 % using molten salts that act as a heat transfer fluid and as a medium of short term energy storage [1].
