    Aside from this past Saturday's rainstorm, much of the second half of the month of April has featured warm temperatures and dry skies. The first half of the month brought 12 of 15 days with measurable rain, while since then we've only seen 2 of 15 days with any recorded precipitation. Unfortunately for seasonal allergy sufferers, these conditions have led to the highest pollen counts of 2025 locally.

    Just about right on schedule, the Ruby-throated hummingbird has made its way back to New England. NBC 10 viewer Jim Picard caught a recently arrived hummingbird in Tiverton back on Sunday.     We are now into the heart of the spring wildfire season here in Southern New England as earth's natural floor waits to green back up. While this weekend's rain helped dampen the ground, breezy conditions the past couple days have allowed brush to dry out again.     It's been a rambunctious start to the severe weather season for the United States. Several tornado outbreaks have led to a whopping 656 tornado reports since the start of the new year. This is the most tornado reports to date since the 2011 severe weather season, one that featured the destructive Joplin and El Reno EF-5 tornadoes.
