Jun. 20—A rockslide and flooding struck Interstate 40 when heavy rain pelted the Pigeon River Gorge on Wednesday, once again closing the interstate. The I-40 washout occurred just over the state line from Haywood County in Tennessee. Luckily, transportation officials expect a much quicker fix than the five-month closure following Helene.

Luckily, transportation officials expect a much quicker fix than the five-month closure following Helene. “While the closure is in the same area of I-40 damaged during Hurricane Helene, the damage is not as extensive,” according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

A new state advisory council is charged with studying and recommending a comprehensive approach to regulating cannabis sales, but at least one local shop owner hopes the state doesn’t over-regulate the industry. “Today all across North Carolina, there are unregulated intoxicating THC products available for purchase: just walk into any vape shop,” Governor Josh Stein said in a press release announcing the council. “There is no legal minimum age to purchase these products.
