The project embodies the team’s ethos of crafting functional, evocative spaces through minimal intervention for maximum impact. The home reimagines the volumes of a Spanish Mission residence for a retired couple transitioning from a sprawling family home to a more compact, single-storey space.

Before a stateside relocation, New Zealand model Georgia Fowler engaged Tigmi Design Studio to create a humble retreat for her growing family. The Byron Bay-based studio harmonised mid-century design and contemporary art to provide a nurturing interior experience for Fowler’s Sydney apartment. Tigmi Design Studio is the brainchild of Tigmi’s creative director, Danielle McEwan.

At the end of a leafy street adjoining Arakwal National Park, an existing dwelling’s internal plan – originally designed by Harley Graham Architects a decade ago – has been respectfully rearranged by Tanev Muir Architects. Yukari House achieves a delicate balance between Australian and Japanese influences, providing a greater sense of place, belonging and connection to its Byron Bay setting. The brief for Yukari House was heavily influenced by the client’s deep cultural connection to Japan.

In Malvern, mere kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD, Studio Kennon continues an exploration of the human experience through the meticulously designed Warm Shadow project. Stepping off the streets of Malvern and into Warm Shadow, visitors sense an elegance beyond the suburb’s, and the home’s, Edwardian facade. The door opens and, instead of a traditional corridor, a lobby-like ambience becomes immediately apparent and sets the tone for the interior experience.

By Narringalling (Sweetwater Creek) on Bunurong Country in Victoria’s Frankston South sits a low-cost, multigenerational, sustainable home designed and built during Melbourne’s extended Covid lockdowns. Sweetwater House belongs to Christopher Botterill – principal architect at Jackson Clement Burrows Architects – and is a materially honest and flexible residence for a growing family. Frankston South is a leafy suburb 40 kilometres south-east of Melbourne’s CBD.

On the fringe of Melbourne’s CBD, Adrian Amore Architects brings a playful and refined approach to the renovation of an existing Edwardian home. Hawthorn East Residence uses a fluid language of curvature and geometry to create an overall composition of harmony. The original Edwardian dwelling is located in the inner-Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn East and underwent a spatial revolution in the early 2000s to foster flow and connectivity, establishing a greater experience of sanctuary.
