    Kayven Hopper, a Cub Scout from Pack 683 in Derby, Kansas, was 9 years old when he lost his battle with epilepsy. His Cub Scout spirit, however, lives on, thanks to Kayven’s Helping Hands, the organization founded by his parents to give other kids the same opportunities that Kayven had, including Cub Scouting. “We created Kayven’s Helping Hands to keep his memory alive and to help others,” says Kayven’s mother, Kacey.

    Joseph Csatari, Silver Buffalo Award recipient, longtime art director for Boys’ Life and artist whose Scouting-related work spanned decades, has died. He was 96. Csatari joined the Boy Scouts of America in 1955 as an artist in the advertising department of the Supply Division. He held numerous positions during his many years of service with the organization.

    I got an email a couple of years ago from a reader of Scout Life magazine’s Scouts in Action comics, the very popular section of the magazine in which we detail lifesaving actions taken by Scouts across the country. The reader took issue with our use of the term “first responder.”We used the term in the strictest Merriam-Webster way: a person (such as a police officer or an EMT) who is among those responsible for going immediately to the scene of an accident or emergency to provide assistance.
