Well, we’ve made it. Another Mariners Opening Day upon us, just four days away. Which means the range of emotions likely runs the full gamut. You’ve got a great number of folks feeling like a scorned lover who once again felt betrayed all offseason from the lack of free agent moves. You’ve got the ultimate troopers who find a way to look at this season through Rose Colored Glasses. And you’ve got those who feel both or neither or somewhere in between.

Sequels might never be as good as the original, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be more important. Thus is the case of John Schneider, who is, for the second straight year, at a crossroads that just might define his legacy even more than hiring his head coach. The Seahawks were turned upside-down this week with the surprising trade of DK Metcalf to the Steelers for a second-round pick and the even-more surprising trade of Geno Smith to the Raiders for a third-round pick.

However, forecasting El Niño events during boreal spring remains challenging. The dynamical seasonal forecast models of the North American Multi-Model Ensemble are over-confident for high confidence (>75% ensemble member agreement) El Niño forecasts.
