    Asked today whether there was a "Fed put" on markets—the idea that the central bank would cut interest rates if stocks continued their recent decline—Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell offered an explanation that markets' recent selloff was understandable given the high amounts of uncertainty about trade policy. Markets are "doing what they're supposed to do," he said, in reacting to major changes in policy on a range of issues from trade to immigration.
