A new report on traffic shows Montreal ranks 30th in the world on the list of cities with the worst congestion. It goes on to report that as a result of that congestion commuters lost 57 hours a year stuck in it while costing our economy $8 billion in lost productivity last year.

In the push for Quebec to transition to exclusively electric vehicles by 2035 in an effort to combat climate change, I’m beginning to wonder if the plan is as unrealistic as it is ambitious when you consider the realities as they exist today. Consider the first reality. Eight out of the top 10 selling cars in Canada are trucks. For the last 15 consecutive years, Canada’s top selling vehicle has been the Ford F-pickup truck.

After French language Minister Jean-Francois Roberge revealed the details of a Statistics Canada survey showing the use of English continuing to rise in the province, albeit marginally and in contrast to survey results conducted by the government’s own language office, the minister yet again pointed to the need for more measures to protect and promote the French language, and announced a multi-million investment to counter it.

Here we go again. It may not be up there with the Pastagate embarrassment, but the newest invented affront to the French language yet again shines an unflattering light on just how, in the name of protecting the French language in this province, hardline nationalists show their disdain for anything English. The Drummondville Voltigeurs junior hockey team had just clinched the Gilles-Courteau Trophy, the coveted prize for winning the league championship.
