As Matariki becomes more visible in the skies of Aotearoa, a book that teaches children to understand the season has recently been released. Qiane Matata-Sipu (Cook Island / Māori) has just published Ngā Kupenga a Nanny Rina (Nanny Rina's Amazing Nets) in both te reo Māori and English, which she says can be a way for families to help their children to better connect with the meaning behind the season, which will be recognised in an upcoming public holiday next Friday.

Te Paati Māori leaders have denied allegations the party is involved or benefited from the misuse of Census data at a South Auckland marae leading up to last year's election. Statistics New Zealand is investigating the claims including private data from Census forms at the Manurewa Marae were photocopied and entered into a database. An investigation was launched after media reports stated their sources claimed the data was then used to target voters in the Tāmaki Makaurau electorate.

After a day dominated by the government‘s budget, as well as peaceful hikoi protests that took place around the country, a celebration of New Zealand’s best and brightest musicians kicked off at Viaduct Events Centre in Tāmaki Makaurau for the Aotearoa Music Awards. One of the hotly contested awards of the night was the Te Manu Taki Ātete o te Tau (Best Hip Hop Artist) which went to Home Brew’s Harry Huavi, whose stage name is Haz Beats, and Tom Scott for their Run it back album.

I had no idea what I was doing when I first sat down and wrote out the first few sentences of this trilogy. I am grateful to God above - beyond words - for how it turned out. It is nothing short of EPIC in its scope, and I'm immeasurably grateful. This is just a short article about a trilogy that has consumed my life since November 21st, 2023, and is now, amazingly, complete. It has CAPTURED me, and compelled me to write the very best works of fiction I've ever set pen to. It's frightening.

The bill proposes recognising Taranaki Maunga as a legal person. Te Pire Whakatupua mō Te Kāhui Tupua Collective Redress Bill has passed its first reading in Parliament. The Taranaki maunga was confiscated in 1865 by the Crown as a punishment for the so-called rebellion of Māori during the New Zealand Wars. Now a bill that will recognise the maunga as a legal person has just passed its first reading in Parliament.
