Area bikers are gearing up for a Joy ride — a Marlene Joy ride, that is. Marlene Joy Orengo was born to be a fighter. She was born to be a mother. She was born to be a friend. The list goes on for an Ironton woman who has exhibited fierce passion for life, conquering obstacles and overcoming the odds along the way. Orengo, 45, has battled cancer for six years. Doctors recently determined treatment is no longer an option. Close friends have organized a benefit for Orengo and her daughter, Ellie.

ASHLAND A long-awaited project is almost ready for a grand reveal. On Friday, June 6 — on the 81st anniversary of D-Day — the tarps covering the World War II Memorial Wall will be removed, and the much-anticipated display will be dedicated in a ceremony at 5 p.m.The “Honoring Heroes” memorial will recognize Boyd Countians who served in World War II. The wall is at the corner of 17th Street and Carter Avenue.
