The new EU AML / CFT package has been published in the Official Journal. Regulation (EU) 2024/1620: Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) This Regulation will apply from 1 July 2025 (the 'go live' date for AMLA). Certain articles will apply earlier (from 26 June 2024) to enable set-up work to begin.

The EU Council and European Parliament have finally reached provisional political agreement on the 'single rulebook' AML Regulation, and the related AML Directive, which form part of the European Commission's 2021 AML proposal. The Commission's proposal comprised four limbs: the regulation and directive, together with a proposal for an EU single AML/CFT supervisor (AMLA) and changes to the Wire Transfers Regulation.

The EU Council and European Parliament have reached provisional political agreement in trilogues on the regulation establishing the new central EU AML/CFT supervisor (AMLA), and on the procedure for selecting AMLA's location.

The application window for EU Member States to submit applications to host AMLA, the planned new EU AML/CFT agency, closes this Friday 10 November. While trilogue negotiations will continue this week regarding the exact procedure for selecting the host Member State following the receipt of all applications, the European Commission, EU Council and European Parliament agreed on a number of criteria which must be met by the successful Member State.
