Yakima County Fire Marshal revises County Burn Ban amid backlash

Per Yakima County, The Yakima County Fire Marshal has issued a revised county-wide burn ban for unincorporated Yakima County. The ban takes effect Sunday, June 1, 2025, and expires Monday, September 1, 2025. Outdoor open burning, including bonfires and recreational fires, or burning vegetation and waste materials, is not allowed. However, residential outdoor activities such as charcoal barbeques and wood pellet smokers may be used.
Traffic Signal Upgrade at 1st St. and East Walnut Ave. Tomorrow

Traffic at the intersection of South 1st Street and East Walnut Avenue will be one lane in all four directions Wednesday morning, May 28th. Work is scheduled to begin at 6:30 am on Wednesday. It is expected to be completed by 12:30 pm. The traffic signal will be dark during Wednesday morning’s project work hours. It will be replaced with temporary stop signs in each direction. Lane closures and the signal outage are required so crews can upgrade the traffic signal’s mounting fixtures.

Road Closures for Roundabout Project After Memorial Day

Road closures will be in place from 7:00 am Tuesday, May 27th, through the beginning of September due to roundabout construction at Fruitvale Boulevard, River Road, and 34th Avenue. Fruitvale Boulevard at River Road and 34th Avenue will be closed to all commercial truck traffic. River Road access from Fruitvale Boulevard will be closed to all motor vehicle traffic. Detours will be posted. Access will be maintained to properties in the project area.
Kittitas County Sheriff's Office Conducts Human Trafficking Operation

The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office concluded a two-day human trafficking operation targeting sex trafficking networks Kittitas County. The Ellensburg and Othello Police Departments provided essential support for the operation. A key goal of the operation was offering a way out for people being trafficked. The Sheriff’s Office partnered with ASPEN Victim Advocacy Services to ensure that trafficked women contacted in this operation had access to resources to facilitate escape and recovery.
