For almost three decades, Clarence Brown Theatre has put on “A Christmas Carol” during the holiday season. It has become a staple in the theater’s annual schedule. On Sunday, Dec. 4, 2023, the theater was packed with people of all ages, ready to watch the adaptation of Charles Dickens’s classic tale. “A Christmas Carol” was first published in 1843, and the story has persisted until today, with many adaptations for film, television, theatrical performances and remakes based on the original story.

If there is one thing people need to know about me during the holiday season, it’s that I don’t love to celebrate the holidays until the week before Christmas. Despite this, I am a sucker for a classic holiday show like any Charlie Brown special, the classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman and the original Grinch from 1966. Those shows and my favorite Christmas movie of all time — which appears on this list — are about the extent of my must-see holiday movies.

Something that challenges many students during the end of the fall semester is the question of whether or not they should go home for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Some students live far away from home during their college years and it just doesn’t make sense for them to go home for every holiday. Regardless of that, every student should get the opportunity to eat Thanksgiving-style food during the holiday break.

Back in 2012, “The Hunger Games” was a sensation. Most undergraduate students at the University of Tennessee were between the ages of 7 and 11 when the first “The Hunger Games” movie was released. The book and movie were something completely new and different. Nothing like “The Hunger Games” had been created before, and try as they might, no author or director could emulate the aesthetics of the dystopian story in the same way again — until now.
