When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Olena and Leonid Parfenenko decided reluctantly to leave their home and florist business.

It’s all down to one man, Dean Majors. Dean has been 'chalking blackboards' for more than 30 years. When he started, restaurants and pubs were just beginning to use them to display the day’s specials or promotions. As Dean recalls, the results were variable.

Chef Mark Byron celebrates his tenth anniversary at Le Caveau with his wife, Esther and children Phoebe and George (Image: Alistair Fox) ON Bastille Day ten years ago, chef Mark Byron took over his own prison by storm. Located in a 16th century former jail, Le Caveau restaurant in Skipton was bought by Mark on July 14, 2014.

Mark Byron, of Le Caveau (Image: Le Caveau) LIKE his former coal miner dad, Skipton chef Mark Byron works underground. His award-winning restaurant, Le Caveau, is just below street level in the site of a 16th century dungeon at 86 High Street. This month, it scooped for the second year running the Prestige Award for Yorkshire’s best French restaurant. He also won the 2023 Skipton Business Award for best food and drink.
