She is athletic, energetic and loves to stay busy. “I like to do American Ninja Warrior at the Warrior Factory and color guard for the Greece marching band Blue Knights,” she said. This brave girl has battled more than just those challenging obstacle courses. After years of suffering, she was diagnosed with chronic pseudo-intestinal obstruction.

But her mom — a neonatal intensive care unit nurse for more than a decade — had a feeling it was more serious.

Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) — Born at just 22 weeks old and weighing only a pound, Isabel Vazquez-Mercado is a fighter. "She'll brighten anybody's day with that big smile she has," said John Vazquez Vargas, Isabel's father. Isabel's birth was an emotional rollercoaster for John and his wife, Claritza, who became first-time parents. "We couldn't hold her," Claritza said.

The dogs you see at the Rochester airport, Monroe County Jail or community events are bred for success. German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Bloodhounds and Labrador Retrievers are breeds typically selected solely because of their tracking and detection capabilities. Gates, Greece, Rochester, and Brockport police all have K-9 officers.

Spencerport, N.Y. (WHAM) — Annie Lookup met her best friend through the kindness of the Pirate Toy Fund. Annie and her favorite stuffed animal, Lambie, met at the Children's Hospital after she had eye surgery. Lambie was a gift from the Pirate Toy Fund to make Annie smile a little bigger. From toy recipient to generous donor, Annie Lookup is donating her birthday toys to the Pirate Toy Fund on Friday, Dec. 1st, 2023.
