Nigeria’s Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Change, Nkiruka Maduekwe, has said the federal government would be exploring ways to amplify “nature-based solutions” this year to address lingering climate problems in the country. Ms Maduekwe, who is also the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, National Council on Climate Change Secretariat (NCCCS), disclosed this on Friday during an interactive session with Journalists in Abuja.

Naira depreciated slightly against the United States dollar at the authorised forex market on Monday, market data published by FMDQ showed. According to the data, the naira closed Monday at N1,548.89/$1 against N1,543.03/$1 posted in the previous segment last Friday. The domestic currency opened the market at N1540.50/$1 before it eventually closed at N1,548.89 at the spot market on Monday.

The experts, who spoke during a high level stakeholders National Dialogue on the EIA Act in Abuja on Thursday, argued that the current laws are not being enforced strongly enough and do not address modern environmental challenges such as climate change and mining among others, effectively.
