    On January 15, 2025, the Supreme Court of the United States issued a unanimous decision in Royal Canin U.S.A., Inc. v. Wullschleger, No. 23–677, holding that when a case alleging both state and federal claims is removed to federal court based on federal-question jurisdiction, and the plaintiff later amends its complaint to eliminate any federal question, the federal court is divested of supplemental jurisdiction over the state-law claims and the matter must be remanded to state court.

Transform Holdco LLC et al., No. 21–1270, holding 11 U.S.C. § 363(m) of the Bankruptcy Code is not a jurisdictional provision because it does not satisfy the clear-statement principle, which provides that a jurisdictional provision be clearly articulated as such. This appeal arises out of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings of Sears Roebuck & Company.

    On April 18, 2023, the United States Supreme Court issued a unanimous decision in a case of original jurisdiction, New York v. New Jersey, No. 156, Orig., holding the state of New Jersey could unilaterally withdraw from the 1953 Waterfront Commission Compact, over the state of New York’s objection, because the Compact was silent as to withdrawal, and contracts contemplating performance for indefinite time periods are terminable at the will of either party.
